What Are the Functional Sciences?
What are Functional Sciences?
At the Academy of Functional Sciences (AFS) we define Functional Sciences as those disciplines that examine how the human body functions in particular circumstances with the purpose of establishing ideal environments for physical growth and mobility in order to achieve quality of life.
These may include aspects of:
- Anatomy
- Biomechanics
- Neuroscience
- Nutrition
- Physiology
- Spinal Dynamics
Functional Sciences focus on those aspects which affect our physical development, function, mobility and performance. Our quality of life is primarily determined by the functional performance of our nervous system, with major contributions from our diet, our understanding of the core elements of our functionality and the nature of the physical and mental demands we place on ourselves. An understanding of these and their relationships to each other enables us to make life enhancing decisions that allow us to function optimally and achieve the best performance possible, in all areas of our lives.
